Among the reeds and other aquatic vegetation, the attentive visitor will first get a glimpse of Marsh Frog (Rana ridibunda), the most common frog in Škocjanski zatok. Also other species thrive in the reserve, such as Green Toad (Bufo viridis), Common Toad (Bufo bufo), Agile Frog (Rana dalmatina) and European Tree Frog (Hyla arborea).
Marsh Frog (Rana ridibunda) belongs to the group of green frogs, which have a tendency to spend a lifetime in water or in its immediate vicinity, where they reproduce, feed and winter. During mating, the males attract females by producing laughing using the air sacs below their mouth.
Green Toad (Bufo viridis) is a thermophilic and evrihaline species, able to adapt to different salinity. It occurs in both freshwater and brackish waters of the reserve.
