This week bird news from Škocjanski zatok – 4.1.2013

On regular weekly bird monitoring in Škocjanski zatok Nature Reserve today (4th January 2013), 46 species of birds were counted or 2.669 individuals.

The most intereresting species observed:

  • Caspian Gull (Larus cachinnans) – 3 ind.
  • Hen Harrier (Circus cyaneus) – 1 ind.
  • Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) – 1 ind.
  • Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula) – 3 ind.

 

Other intereresting species observed:

  • Eurasian Wigeon (Anas penelope) – 18 ind.
  • Common Pochard (Aythya ferina) – 4 ind.
  • Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) – 36 ind.
  • Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) 18 ind.
  • Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago) – 12 ind.
  • Eurasian Jackdaw (Corvus monedula) – 6 ind.
  • Penduline Tit (Remiz pendulinus) – 16 ind.
  • Goldcrest (Regulus regulus) – 1 ind.
  • Cirl Bunting (Emberiza cirlus) – 6 ind.
  • Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) – 14 ind.
  • Water Pipit (Anthus spinoletta) – 3 ind.
  • Hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) – 7 ind.

The most numerous were the Common Coot (Fulica atra – 661 individuals) and the Black-headed Gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus – 970 individuals).
