On regular weekly bird monitoring in Škocjanski zatok Nature Reserve today (4th January 2013), 46 species of birds were counted or 2.669 individuals.
The most intereresting species observed:
- Caspian Gull (Larus cachinnans) – 3 ind.
- Hen Harrier (Circus cyaneus) – 1 ind.
- Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) – 1 ind.
- Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula) – 3 ind.
Other intereresting species observed:
- Eurasian Wigeon (Anas penelope) – 18 ind.
- Common Pochard (Aythya ferina) – 4 ind.
- Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) – 36 ind.
- Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) – 18 ind.
- Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago) – 12 ind.
- Eurasian Jackdaw (Corvus monedula) – 6 ind.
- Penduline Tit (Remiz pendulinus) – 16 ind.
- Goldcrest (Regulus regulus) – 1 ind.
- Cirl Bunting (Emberiza cirlus) – 6 ind.
- Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) – 14 ind.
- Water Pipit (Anthus spinoletta) – 3 ind.
- Hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) – 7 ind.
The most numerous were the Common Coot (Fulica atra – 661 individuals) and the Black-headed Gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus – 970 individuals).
