On regular weekly bird monitoring in Škocjanski zatok Nature Reserve today (9.8.2012), 49 species of birds were counted or 874 specimen.
Other interesting species observed:
- Black-necked Grebe (Podiceps nigricollis) – 2 specimen
- Garganey (Anas querquedula) – 5 speciemen
- Common Pochard (Aythya ferina) – 3 specimen
- Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula) – 1 specimen
- Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginosus) – 1 specimen (juv)
- Kentish Plover (Charadrius alexandrinus)- 1 specimen
- Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata) – 5 specimen
- Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) – 15 specimen
- Common Redshank (Tringa totanus) – 1 specimen
- Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) – 7 specimen
- Green sandpiper (Tringa ochropus) – 4 specimen
- Black Tern (Chlidonias niger) – 4 specimen
- Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra) – 1 specimen
- Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin) – 1 specimen
- Common Cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) – 1 specimen
The most numerous were Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos ,211specimen), Black-headed Gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundus, 169 specimen) and Little Egret (Egretta garzetta, 50 specimen).
