On regular weekly bird monitoring in Škocjanski zatok Nature Reserve today (29.8.2012), 47 species of birds were counted or 800 specimen.
Interesting species observed:
- Montagu’s Harrier (Circus pygargus) – 1 juv specimen
- Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica) – 3 specimen
- Red Knot (Calidris canutus) – 2 specimen
- Spotted Crake (Porzana porzana) – 1 specimen
- Eurasian Wigeon (Anas penelope) – 1 specimen
- Icterine Warbler (Hippolais icterina) – 1 specimen
- Ruff (Philomachus pugnax) – 1 specimen
- Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra) – 6 specimen
- Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin) – 2 juv specimen
- Tree Pipit (Anthus trivialis) – 4 specimen
Other interesting species observed:
- Black-necked Grebe (Podiceps nigricollis) – 2 specimen
- Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) – 12 specimen
- Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata) – 3 specimen
- Common Sandpiper(Actitis hypoleucos) – 7 specimen
- Common Redshank (Tringa totanus) – 1 specimen
- Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) – 30 specimen
- Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) – 3 specimen
- Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago) – 1 specimen
- Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) – 2 specimen
- Rufous Nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos) – 4 specimen
The most numerous were Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos , 250 specimen) and Common Teals (Anas crecca, 164 specimen).
