The monitoring of breeding birds in Skocjanski zatok NR has recently been finished and the results reveal a possible new breeding species in the area – the Little Tern (Sterna albifrons) – which hopefully soon will be confirmed as the 41st species on the list of the reserve breeding birds.
During the monitoring, the ornithologists registered 28 pairs of Common Tern (Sterna hirundo) and ringed 51 chicks. Among other species, they also recorded a successul breeding of over 15 pairs of Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) and 2 pairs of Common Redshank (Tringa totanus).
